Mike Tyson Reflects on His Life

Mike Tyson has given a surprisingly lucid interview to Donny Desutsch which will air tonight on CNBC at 10pm - here are the highlights:
On Boxing
- “Actually, I feel that my career was a waste, I never really contributed to life. It didn’t matter so I feel that it was a waste.”
- “I made many mistakes in my life and I’m just constantly working on improving myself as a human being. I’m not breaking my back to impress anybody. It’s all about process, trying to love myself as a human being. I’m ready, I’m going to calm myself without boxing.”
- “It’s just looking at my input in life. I no longer fight. I think retiring from boxing is the best thing I ever did in my life. I’m to extreme, too emotionally extreme.”
On comments that he wanted to fight women on his next world tour
- “I thought it would be funny. I was just… Everyone knows I’m joking. You know, if any woman fighter took me seriously, I would think that she would think it was funny. I hope nobody took offense to it. That was just me being facetious and tripping.”
- “Sometimes I’m a quack you know? I start trouble, I’m a drama king.”
On Fatherhood
- “Well, I tell them that Daddy had some bad times, and life goes and you realize that.”
On his biggest regret
- “I wish I wasn’t… I wish I didn’t sleep with a lot of women. I wish I wasn’t that promiscuous. I had children with a lot of people I had no business having children with.”
- “I can’t believe I was that person, that’s what’s funny, I just can’t believe I was that person.”
On his rape charges
- “Well I only apologize for anything I did, that’s all I’ll apologize for. If I hit somebody, I’m sorry. If I harmed somebody I’m sorry. What do they think I should to, should I go to a monastery? What else can I do?… But I didn’t do that.”
